Port Kennedy School
Port Kennedy School circa 1950

Historic School Building

Built in 1912, our building originally served Upper Merion Township as the Port Kennedy School—when Port Kennedy was a thriving 19th century industrial village built around limestone quarries, the Schuylkill Canal, and the Reading Railroad. After closing as a public school in 1960, the property was abandoned, later restored, and then used as an office building.

New Learning Opportunities

In the summer of 2021, the owners of Forge Early Learning Center acquired this landmark. While preserving its historic charm, they began transforming the building into a modern, vibrant child care facility. Today, our center features six thoughtfully designed classrooms, blending historic character with the latest in early childhood learning environments. We are proud to preserve this important piece of our community’s history and excited this gem has returned to its original purpose: nurturing, educating, and inspiring children.
